2021 NHAND Conference This session qualifies for 1 Addiction CE Almost 1 in 10 women reported an increase in alcohol-related problems in 2020. How does alcohol consumption impact the health of women who drink? Compared to men, women are more sensitive to the effects of alcohol. One drink or less daily may decrease cardiovascular risk for women, but even light alcohol use can contribute to hormone and neurotransmitter imbalance, increased risk of breast cancer and other serious health consequences. Evidence-based screening tools can help identify problem drinking and guide treatment selection. Hormone and neurotransmitter assessment may help identify supportive therapies to help women regain balance.
